WHAT DOES HOLD PLATED MEAN?

Gold-plated jewellery is made by covering a base metal with a  layer of gold. The thickness of the gold layer varies, but it is typically between 0.5 and 2.5 microns thick. Electroplating is the most common method used to create gold-plated jewellery. In electroplating, an electric current passes through a solution containing gold ions in this process. The ions are attracted to the jewelry piece, which causes them to bond with the surface of the base metal. The result is an even layer of gold.
